Tom Edwards tackles Pole Position at Portimao.
22 September 2018

The Nutec - Benjan - Kawasaki team traveled to Portimao Autodromo da Algarve before the 7th round of the World Supersport 300 championship, to do a 2 day test there.

That this paid off last weekend during WSBK Portimao, turned out during the two free practice sessions on Friday. Tom Edwards scored a tight P6 and P5, a good preparation for Saturday's Superpole.

Walid Khan needed some time to get the adjustment to his liking and finished Friday on a 14th position.

On Saturday, Walid Khan was the first to start in Superpole 1, positioning his Kawasaki Ninja 400 in an 8th position, which is an 18th place to start, behind the 10 riders that start in Superpole 2.

Aussie Tom Edwards was confident and retained his good form, an excellent 4th lap in Superpole 2 brought him alone in the 1.56min time zone. With this great result, Tom Edwards scored the 1st Pole Position for himself and for the Nutec - Benjan - Kawasaki team! Tom is also with this result the 1st Australian Polesitter in World Supersport 300 and the 1st Australian to win a Pole Position in the WSBK Championship since 2010- Broc Parkes.

The race was exciting, Tommy immediately took the lead and kept the lead for 2 laps, the tight group of 10 riders competed for the positions and colleague Kawasaki rider Scott Deroue used his experience and won the race. Tom finished in a creditable 6th place.

As usual , Walid was strong in the race and showed again that a lesser starting position does not mean that you can not get into the top-10, unfortunately Walid crashed due to his passion for overtaking 5! Riders in one and the same bend. Quickly he picked up the Ninja 400 again and became 21st.

The last race of the season is upcoming weekend 28-30 September in French, Magny Cours, Tom will go again for the day's success and Walid still has great chances to reach the Top 5-10 of the World Supersport 300 championship.

The Nutec - Benjan - Kawasaki team will compete jointly to finish the season successfully and strong!
